Woman accused of killing roommate for reporting her drinking

On May 9, it was reported that a Minnesota woman was accused of murdering one of her roommates after she was allegedly reported for drinking at a sober house. The alleged murder occurred on May 6. Police were told that the woman believed that she was going to be kicked out of the program due to the report that she had been drunk.

At about 8 p.m., authorities were called to a Bloomington apartment located on the 8100 block of 12th Avenue. When they arrived, police found a 69-year-old woman on the floor of her bedroom. She reportedly had an electrical cord wrapped around her neck and multiple injuries on her face and head. Authorities found that the other roommate had called the authorities as soon as she found the woman lying on the floor.

While the authorities were completing the investigation, a separate 911 call was made in regards to an alleged drunk woman who was involved in a domestic altercation two blocks away. Police arrived to find a 46-year-old woman allegedly assaulting a man in the parking lot. The woman's boyfriend told authorities that she had been highly intoxicated the day before and that she told him that she killed the woman by wrapping the cord around her neck and hitting her.

A person may face 1st degree murder if it is believed that he or she intended to kill the person and act was premeditated. For 2nd degree and 3rd degree murder charges, the person was accused of killing someone without premeditation or without intent. A criminal law attorney may review the evidence against the accused person and determine what defense strategy may be appropriate.
