With last week’s news that Minnesota is toughening up DUI laws, some people might be concerned about the implications of that change. One way that it might affect some people is if they have to go through a background check before being hired or once they are hired.

When an arrest ends in a conviction, the conviction can remain on the background report forever. Another important point for anyone in Minnesota to know is that in this state, it isn’t legal for employers to refuse to employ someone who has a criminal conviction unless the employer can show that the conviction is relevant to the job.
